Counselor

Students are invited to participate in small group counseling sessions. Children who share a common concern meet together with the counselor to talk and to share activities. If your child will benefit from these groups, please contact me. At times during the year your child may come home with a letter requesting participation in a group. The following groups may be available during our school year:

• Social Skills
• Divorce
• Grief
• Responsibility / Behavior
• Other groups as needed

When students leave school for the weekend, the last thing they should have to worry about is when they will get their next meal.  Barbers Hill ISD  values the whole child and their needs. We are very fortunate to provide the Backpack Buddy Program to our students.

Purpose:

• Supplemental food provides healthy minds and bodies.
• Children who rely on free or reduced lunches at school are often hungry on the weekends.
• Our Backpack Buddy Program discreetly provides child-friendly, nonperishable, nutritious food for children in need in our school.  Backpacks filled with food are sent home on Friday and collected on Monday to be refilled.
• Our Backpack Program provides each participating child six balanced meals including whole-grain cereals, protein-rich entrées, canned fruits and vegetables, milk and snacks each weekend during the school year.

At Barbers Hill Intermediate School South, we strive for each child to have an opportunity for academic and personal growth. Our Mentor Program matches volunteers from the district or community with students who are: experiencing academic difficulties, having trouble adjusting to the school environment, dealing with the loss of a loved one to death or divorce, experiencing the stress of sickness or other problems in the home, or are extremely shy. The mentor takes a personal interest in the growth and development of the child and meets with his/her student(s) once a week before school or at lunch to act as a model, tutor, friend, coach and guide.
